Can you put foam in the dryer?
The chemicals in memory foam can cause a reaction from the intense heat of the dryer and cause a fire. Therefore, never put memory foam into the dryer.
Typically, memory foam will need to be hand-washed, as machine washing can cause it to break apart. However, memory foam commonly has hypoallergenic properties that stave off the presence of mildew, dust mites, and other allergens and it does not need to be deep cleaned as often as other types of pillow fill.
Foam pillows can't be put in the dryer, but drying them isn't hard. Press and wring out as much excess moisture as you can, then place the pillow in a warm spot with good circulation. Outside on a sunny day works great. Stand it up on one end so both sides can dry.
When cleaning any type of foam material, we therefore recommend the use of a reuseable spray bottle in which your cleaning agent can be mixed with water (if needing to be diluted). Two popular items used in the foam cleaning are rubbing alcohol and white vinegar, in addition to a microfibre cloth.
Spraying a mist of water on the substrate or/and between layers of foam can speed up the curing process. Typically, it can take between 5 and 60 minutes for the foam to become tack-free. Full cure may be reached in a time range of about 8 to 24 hours, depending on the product and site conditions.
Tempting as it may be to warm your memory foam mattress as quickly as possible with a hot water bottle or electric blanket/heating pad, we advise you not to do so. Such direct applications of heat can damage the memory foam material and not only compromise its performance but also shorten its overall lifespan.
Moisture can hasten the deterioration of foam and affect its performance. Moisture can weaken the adhesive holding the layers together and ruin the mattress. Moisture can accumulate and lead towards mold.
Can I put memory foam in the washer? No, machine washing memory foam spoils its structure. The strong agitation may rip the foam, making the topper unfit for use. Avoid putting memory foam in the dryer as well.
Does water ruin a memory foam mattress? Yes, if the water stays inside the mattress for more than 24 hours. Memory foam is made from polyurethane and is very porous.
Punctured foam contains plant debris which will pollute the water in the new arrangement. Note: unpunctured, used foam may be reused as filler, however, once foam has dried out, it cannot be re-wet, so make sure the used foam is not in an area that will be reached by thirsty plant stems.
How do you dry foam without sun?
Sprinkle baking soda over the mattress, let it sit for at least 30 minutes, then vacuum it up with an upholstery attachment. Air out your mattress every few months. If you'll be away from your home for a few days, use the opportunity to air out your mattress.
Use upholstery cleaner or a mild detergent. Do not place foam cushions in a washing machine or dryer. The agitation in the machines can easily damage the foam, and dryer heat could damage it as well. If the cushions are in bad shape or are not responding to cleaning, many craft or fabric stores carry replacement foam.

Dip a white washcloth in the soapy water and rub this over the dirty spots on your foam blocks. The spots should come out easily. Set the block out so it can dry.
The steps are simple: Sprinkle the mattress with baking soda to help absorb some moisture. Vacuum the mattress with a wet/dry vacuum. Make sure to let the mattress dry fully before using it again.
Water will only penetrate through the foam with pressure (i.e. submersion, flooding etc.). In fact, in 96 hour water submersion tests, 0.5lb open-cell foam was found to have a water absorption rate of approximately 25% – no more than typical plywood.
Upon contact with heat, memory foam softens and moulds to the shape of your body for individualised comfort and support. Then, when you get out of bed, the foam springs back to its original shape.
Memory foam will eventually soften without you having to do anything, besides sleep on it. The compression from your body alone will be enough to soften the foam, and you won't have to wait very long.
It will start to soften at 212 °F, and it will melt at 464 °F. You can use styrofoam containers to preserve food in the fridge, but you can never reheat it or cook it in the oven.
Foams, all of them, expand and contract due to temperature as do pretty much all materials. Some materials even expand and contract due to moisture changes – who knew? Anyway, when foams are hot they get bigger. When they are cold they get smaller.
Both will melt at high temperatures making them great candidates for recycling. EPS is 98% air and will emit carbon monoxide, monoxide, mono-styrene, hydrogen bromide and other aromatic compounds when burned according to the EPS Industry Alliance. Aromatic compounds are similar to those found in cigarette smoke.
How do you rejuvenate memory foam?
- Place the mattress on the floor.
- Place a pillow under the sagging part of the foam.
- Install a mattress topper or mattress pad.
- Add a layer of cardboard or wood underneath.
- Try a mattress helper.
And a mattress with any type of foam (most mattresses have some type of foam), whether it is latex foam or memory foam, is the perfect host to grow mold. The mold colonizes in the millions-upon-millions of open cells or air pockets in the foam, making it impossible to eradicate.
In most cases, a strong dip in memory foam is permanent. For this reason, it's a good idea to purchase a high-quality memory foam mattress.
You can't put foam pads in a washing machine or dryer since the spinning and agitation are too much for the delicate structure of the foam.
Let the Pillow Air Dry
Be sure to avoid putting your memory foam or latex pillow in the dryer, as this could potentially melt the foam.
